Have you ever been in a position where you scroll through social media and see that someone, maybe it’s your friends, or your colleagues, and they are doing something that seems bigger, better, more recognized? Perhaps that’s not it, but maybe you’re on a team and someone new comes and they’re all of a sudden getting more praise or acknowledgement. Or maybe even you just feel like you’re not “Where you want to be” in “Your stage of life”. I just want to share a little bit of my experience with this thing called comparison.
Comparison is a thing that will kill your identity, and even create a counterfeit you. It’s something you have to keep in check, and it’s extremely easy to slip into. Trust me, one minute you’ll be fine and your heart may be in the right place, and the very next thought can be a seed that can destroy everything.
Kill comparison before you create a counterfeit you, where you start acting like someone else. Nothing wrong with having people you look up to but God created only ONE you! Don’t be the next “BIG NAME” Worship Leader, Pastor, Preacher, Influencer, etc. Only the real YOU is anointed, and you’re the best at it! Kill comparison before you start getting jealous of other peoples gifts. Jealousy is the doorway to evil of every kind, and it needs to be shut and dealt with before other things walk through it, like hate, anger, bitterness, and other demonic things.
James 3:16 (NLT)
16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
Maybe that’s you, maybe you’ve dealt with this at some level. Maybe you’re reading this thinking, “Wow, I’ve definitely dealt with all of these things.” Don’t worry, we can deal with this, and it’s nothing God can’t deal with.
Here are some practical steps to kill comparison:
Take it to the Lord. BE HONEST about your feelings. You will never be free of something that you can’t be honest about, and acknowledging there is an issue. If you go to the doctor and they ask you what’s wrong, and you say nothing I’m fine, then what you’re dealing with will not be treated properly!
Discover who YOU ARE! See yourself the way God sees you! You’re not on this earth by mistake. He thought you were so important and that the earth needed you NOW, at THIS TIME AND PLACE! You would be robbing the world of the gift that is YOU if you tried to be someone else.
Celebrate the other person! Be their biggest cheerleader! Support them! We’re all on the same team and they are just as valuable to the team as you are!
Know that your walk is YOUR walk and that it doesn’t have to look like what the person next to you looks like!
Have a support system of people you trust. Make sure it’s in the light so that way the enemy can’t use it in the darkness.
Comparison. We all deal with it at some level. Don’t be discouraged. In fact, I hope that you leave from this page encouraged and empowered! My hope and my prayer for you today is that you will be freed from this, and you can live the life you were designed for! We need you, so please be you!
